A Silhouette of Things to Come

Black Bamboo, Green Grass, Blue Skies.

By: Amar Ashworth

As you may or may not be aware, Skateboarding has now replaced hardwood flooring as the number one cause of deforestation in North America.  Eventually bamboo/composite construction will replace the standard and much less sustainable pure maple 7ply construction. For the time being I recommend trying one of the new “tech layups” many companies are making stronger and longer lasting skateboards that are lighter and actually use less maple I have created this page(Tech Layups) listing a few(This piece was created on a Flip P2 ridden hard for 6 months before cracking, I focused it.)

On a purely side note, as a kid I studied Chinese Water Color under Virginia Lloyd-Davies.  I didn’t get very far in my training and still struggle to master the Sumi-e brush.  I do though feel like taking those classes changed my perspective on art and made me appreciate practice and composition.  This piece reminded me of those times, I hope you like it.

Raging Flames

Maple wood grain often reminds me of flames. I coincidentally started this piece about a month before the wildfires on the East Coast started.

This is what happens when your wife says. "do something with these."

Ah the Greeks, the basis for all modern societies, the Greeks where also great athletes and loved sport.  I was inspired by some coasters we had(the semicircular brown “leather” at the top.)  This piece was completed in Feb. 2012.

Window into Spring

Image

By: Amar Ashworth

Created at the end of a long west coast winter, this is my first attempt at trompe l’oeil(fool the eye). I’m not sure how much “fooling” this piece is going to do, but I am quite happy with how it turned out.
